Eighty-four-year-old Radha Chaturvedi slipped and fell in the washroom, resulting in a spine fracture that left her unable even to sit. The local hospital confirmed the fracture but expressed their inability to treat her. Ms. Chaturvedi's family sought consultations from various hospitals, but none could improve her condition. Amrita Hospital in Faridabad, located about 1000 km away from their residence, became their ray of hope. The family managed to transport her to Faridabad by train, where they consulted Dr. Tarun Suri, Head of the Division of Spine Surgery. Dr. Suri recommended a novel procedure called Vertebral Body Stenting for her in which a metallic Stent is inserted into the fractured vertebra through a very small incision. She was also evaluated by Neuro anaesthesia team members, Dr Gaurav Kakkar and Dr Deepak Pahwa, who also recommended Bilateral Intercostal Nerve Root Blocks for relief of severe radiating pain. Following the procedure, Ms. Chaturvedi experienced significant relief from pain and regained her ability to sit. A smiling Ms. Chaturvedi and her family thanked Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, and the Spine Surgery and anaesthesia team for bringing relief and joy into their lives.
