Mr. Mukesh, who is a known patient of Renal failure on regular dialysis for 10 years was admitted in a very serious condition. He required medications to support his heart and had an ongoing continuous high-grade fever and low blood pressure due to a condition called "sepsis". This was due to an infection of his Mitral valve a condition called "Endocarditis". This is a very serious condition and on top of this, the patient was dialysis dependent.
Dr Urmila Anandh who was overlooking the treatment suggested surgery and referred the patient to the cardiac surgery team after stabilising the patient. Important to note that the patient and his family had previously visited 2 reputed hospitals in Faridabad where he was refused surgery and at one major Center where he was quoted a high risk for complications after surgery, hence the patient and his kin refused surgery.
At Amrita Hospital, Mr. Mukesh consulted Dr. Sameer Bhate, Head, Department of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery, who recommended the surgery. The doctor counselled the family about the need for the major procedure. The family carefully considered the suggestion and agreed to proceed with the surgery. A team of doctors led by Dr Sameer Bhate operated on the patient. The surgery involved the removal of the infected valve and after that antibiotics for 4 months with regular dialysis. Mr. Mukesh's family expressed gratitude to Amrita Hospital doctors and staff for providing him with the best treatment and care.
