We scheduled medical transportation with Amira Transport from Virginia Beach to Richmond and paid $1,800 for a Tuesday appointment. Unfortunately, my mom’s appointment was canceled, so we canceled the ride on Saturday — three days in advance.
According to their own cancellation policy, only same-day cancellations receive a 20% refund and day-before cancellations receive a 50% refund. Since we canceled three days prior, we should have received a full refund. Despite this, Amira Transport initially tried to keep 25% of the payment, which was not stated anywhere in their policy.
After several back-and-forth emails, they finally agreed to issue a full refund and told us to wait 5–7 business days. After more than 7 business days, no refund appeared, so we emailed again requesting proof. They sent a document claiming the refund had been processed, but no refund ever posted to our account.
After over a month with no refund, we were forced to dispute the charge with our bank. The bank ultimately ruled in our favor and returned the money.
What makes this even more upsetting is that I had to continue dealing with this situation after my mother passed away. This added unnecessary stress during an already painful time.
This experience was extremely stressful, especially given that this involved medical transportation for a family member. Be very cautious, read everything closely, and don’t rely on promises without confirmation. Unfortunately, we would not use this company again.
