⚡ Quick Electrical Safety Reminder for Neighbors
As a local electrician working in homes around the area, I’ve been seeing a few electrical issues lately that many homeowners don’t realize can exist behind the panel.
Some common things I’ve come across recently include:
• Loose connections in panels that can overheat
• Double-tapped breakers (two wires on one breaker)
• Burn marks from long-term overload
• DIY wiring that isn’t properly protected or grounded
• Older panels that are no longer considered safe
In one recent home, the homeowner called because a breaker kept tripping. When we opened the panel, the main lug was starting to burn — something that could have turned into a serious issue if it went unnoticed.
Electrical systems often don’t give big warnings before something fails, and small issues can sit quietly for years.
A quick electrical inspection can be a good idea if:
• Your home is 20+ years old
• You’ve added EV chargers, hot tubs, or new appliances
• Lights flicker or breakers trip occasionally
• The panel hasn’t been looked at in years
If anyone has questions about panels, wiring, or electrical safety, feel free to ask here — always happy to help neighbors understand their homes a little better.
