Why the most detailed bid often matters more than the lowest one
A local costumer recently left Alpha General Construction a 5-star review after we converted his shower and tub area into a true wet room. From the finished space, the project may look straightforward. Behind the walls and below the floor, it required demolition, framing adjustments, slab work for a zero-curb entry, drain relocation, waterproofing, tile, plumbing, electrical, drywall, paint, and careful coordination between each phase.
That is why a contractor should not be chosen by price alone. The lowest bid may exclude important steps that return later as change orders. The highest bid is not automatically the best value, either. What matters is whether the proposal clearly explains the work: what is included, what is excluded, who supplies materials, how waterproofing will be completed, how hidden conditions are handled, and what warranty supports the finished project.
The number matters, but the scope behind the number matters more. A detailed proposal creates accountability before construction begins and gives the homeowner a fair way to compare contractors.
