When we bought our house last fall, we knew there was an issue with the concrete front porch that was original to the house. While we found a company to come and remove the concrete slab top, they didn’t do the sort of foundation repair we needed and didn’t know anyone who did. So, we scrambled to find someone to come out asap. We called several places, and they said they’d call us back, send someone for a quote, etc. – one company didn’t even want to travel the ~10 minute drive! That is, until we found and called Alonzo Contractors. They said they would be out the very next day. They arrived on time and walked over everything we knew about the porch and foundation so far (cracked footer, concerns about the foundation wall with the house, and a large crack where the front porch tied to the house that we had patched in the winter). They took measurements, talked things over and told us what they would do (take out all of the gravel, investigate if the issues were due to a cracked footer, replace the footer all around the porch, fix the cracked wall, check and reinsulate the house foundation wall, and they would add rebar every 4 ft with concrete poured down each of those cavities to strengthen everything), how long it would take (3-4 days), and how much it would cost. The work sounded extensive, but the price was very reasonable, so we talked for about 10 seconds, and hired them on the spot. They said they would start the following Monday.
The start was delayed by 2 days due to weather, but at 730a on that Wednesday, they were already digging out the gravel – by hand! All the gravel went onto a tarp in the front yard, and they soon realized they’d need a bigger crew. That afternoon, a few more guys came out and continued to dig. The next morning, at 730a, an even bigger crew was back. They had the gravel out by early afternoon as well as the confirmed cracked footer. Before they left, the new one had been poured, and the large crack that was on the corner of our house had been fixed from the outside AND the inside. Friday afternoon they arrived and began rebuilding the walls with a crew of 8-10 guys. They also cleared off the insulated wall and confirmed it was perfectly fine, then reinsulated it with better insulation than we had. Saturday morning, they were back – the gravel was put back into the pit, packed down nicely, the yard was cleaned of any loose gravel or debris and I did a final inspection with them. I told them I was thrilled, especially that they could do the work so quickly. I was told that’s what they do – they respond quickly.
The entire team was wonderful – we may have had a language barrier, but they were perfectly fine with me peaking from the windows, taking pictures, and even my cats “supervising” them (they’re words). They are incredibly hard working, and the work they do is impeccable. While I wish we’d hired them from the initial start, I’d absolutely hire them again. No ifs, ands or buts about it. They got everything done in 4 days, and we couldn’t be happier – our new porch is not going to be moving at all, and we’ll never again have the problem we did before Alonzo Contractors fixed everything. Thank you so much!!!!
