(Original) In early November, me and my 2 travel partners did a 4-day Amazon tour with Allpayacu Adventures, and we absolutely loved it. From the moment we were picked up in Iquitos, everything was perfectly arranged and communication was excellent. We met our guide May, who was amazing—knowledgeable, friendly, easy to talk to, and he even helped us plan parts of our trip before we arrived. After a 2-hour boat ride we reached the lodge, beautifully located deep in the jungle. The place was peaceful, with comfortable insect-proof rooms, great common areas, and the best beds we had in Peru. Falling asleep to the jungle sounds was unforgettable. Every day had a different activity: jungle hikes, piranha fishing, night walks, bird-spotting on the river, and plenty of relaxing time. The food was incredible—three delicious meals a day from a private chef—and the staff was super friendly. They even cooked the piranhas we caught! What made the tour truly special was our guide May. He customized everything based on our wishes and the weather conditions, and on the last day he took us to a local community where we got to cuddle a sloth—one of the highlights of our trip. After four wonderful days, it was hard to say goodbye. We left full of joy, new memories, and a desire to return. As a well travelled person, I can honestly say this was one of the greatest experience of my life. I have wanted to visit the Amazon since I was a young child, and the family-like team at Alpayacu made this so special. The experience was raw and natural but so beautiful too. After talking with other travellers about their experiences in the jungle and what they got to see, I’m so glad we went with Alpayacu. We saw countless species of birds, monkeys, insects, sloths, anteater, snake, and even some tarantulas!The list goes on! May and James were so accommodating from the moment we met them. My partner and I were lucky to be the only guests at the time and felt very safe at all times. They gave us the option to personalise our itinerary incase we got tired of trekking or didn’t want to look for tarantulas ect. But we had the best time by having full trust in Mays itinerary and living the full jungle experience. My partner is a fussy eater but agrees some of the best food we had in Peru was at the Alpayacu eco-lodge. And a mile up stream where we caught and cooked piranha using traditional stick-and-line fishing method! It was great talking to May about the Alpayacu vision. His hopes to better the community and educate future generations were inspiring. He took us to a local village they support (a wonderful experience) where it was lovely to see how respected he was. His story is beautiful and passion is strong. The world needs more people like this. I couldn’t be happier with where my money was going. The 3 days we spent in the Amazon were simply incredible. The activities are really varied, and our guide (David) was happy to guide and do whichever activities we preferred. Activities included incredible dolphin watching in the bays, sunset bathing, getting up for the beautiful and serene sunrises, day trekking, night trekking, sloth spotting, fishing, night walks and more which we didn’t have time for. Our guide David was absolutely fantastic. Having grown up in the area, not only was he completely expert in guiding us, but also really down to earth, funny, a natural communicator, respectful and always happy to share stories, memories and knowledge of his life in the Amazon if you are interested in hearing them. He cared for us so well, at no point did we ever feel unsafe and it was an absolute pleasure to be shown a small portion of the Amazon by him. I couldn’t recommend David enough! The stay is also supported by a fantastic supporting staff, from our co-guide Jung (probably incorrect spelling, sorry!) to the incredible kitchen staff and porters. The food is simple but delicious, featuring local foods from fish to the juiciest fruit. Everything is prepared on time and to a great standard. The whole vibe is just really welcoming and chilled out. Some tourist packages can be a bit ‘over the top’, but the guides at Allpayacu have a great skill for understanding when you’d like some time to rest, when you'd like to do more etc. I could go on but basically I’d highly recommend this company, it’s fantastic value for money and I honestly can’t think of a single negative.
