The weather is less bleak and we have seen the sun (a little). This means its time to get back out to your pond and get everything ready for the summer.
Here is everything we recommend doing early spring to get the best out of your pond.
Filtration deep clean - pull all of your filters apart and give everything a clean with pond water, removing all of the winter waste be sure to chuck in a pond bomb or bacteria ball to repopulate the biological media.
UV Bulb - While you have your filter apart its best to change the UV Bulb now that way it is working at peak output for the spring and summer.
Switch to an early summer season food - Time to pack the wheatgerm winter food away for water temp above 10'C and start feeding a food with a slightly higher protein and fat content our pick is Medikoi Health or Medikoi Probiotic
Vacuum time - Winter storms will blow all sorts of flotsam and Jetsam into the bottom of the pond a good quality sludge net or even a pond vacuum is a great way to reduce nutrient input early on preventing excess algae growth.
Preventative algae treatments - Although a full treatment is not always required at this time of the year a blanketweed preventative treatment is a great way to avoid unnecessary growth. A phosphate control treatment like Oase Phosless Direct or Cloverleaf Prevent are great for controlling excess nutrients. Dying the pond blue can block the wavelengths of light that algae require NT Labs Blanketweed and Algae control is great for this.
