Working with Dr. Janah was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. We share a unique connection through Puma, and I could not be more impressed by her presence, her compassion, and unmatched professionalism. She truly exemplifies veterinary integrity. The staff at All Due Respect show just as much care as Dr. Janah and work hard to ensure the right decision is made. It is not an easy one but one that must be made.
I was blessed with the luxury of having additional time with Puma. We used that time for last minute spontaneous adventures, photo sessions, and home cooked meals. His final day felt so surreal, it was as if he knew. It’s difficult for me to put into words how much he meant to me. He was my Pride and Joy. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to share him with the world.
My friend’s made long trips to say goodbye and I was so moved by their acts of kindness that when it came time for the final hour, I was caught off guard by Dr. Janah’s arrival. And yet, she knew exactly what to do. Without missing a beat, Dr. Janah became part of our group and gave us as much time as we needed to collect ourselves. The seconds became excruciating for me. Looking my dear old friend in the eye and seeing them glimmer for the last time felt so conflicting. It felt like betrayal. Such is the emotional cost of euthanasia.
Puma was in rough condition. Not only was this Shiba Inu knocking on the door of 15, but he also suffered a few nasty falls down the stairs and was presenting symptoms indicative of GI lymphoma. I flipped and flopped at least one hundred times between deciding. Ultimately, what led me to my decision was the medical kindness Dr. Janah offered. Although his spirit was as youthful as ever, his body; simply was not. I did not want him to suffer through another fall, another winter, or any other painful symptoms of cancer.
As I carried him up the stairs, wrapped in a blanket to our porch garden, Dr. Janah sat with us on the floor of our deck. My friends stood a steps distance away from us while my wife and I sat together with Puma’s neck and head nestled into my lap after the first injection. Trying to hold back tears, combing my hands through his fur, and steadying our breathing, the second injection arrived. As Dr. Janah monitored Puma’s vitals, my wife’s hand was on Puma’s heart the whole time-and it felt safe up until his very last beat.
Puma passed peacefully in our garden surrounded by love and a dedicated veterinarian in Dr. Janah. He had one of the best day’s ever, for which I’m forever grateful to my friend’s.
If you made it to the end of this review, please hang in there. Watch for when the bad days outweigh the good. And know that when it’s time, you and “your Puma” will be given all due respect from Dr. Janah Maresca.
