Having already been through this process one time prior, I was somewhat prepared and versed in the process of releasing a pet. So the day came for my sweet Carl to be released. Living in a rural area made it tough to find a provider that could assist in Carl's release. Some providers stay within a certain service area, others just don't operate outside of M-Fri, couldn't help until a week later or carry hours that didn't fully align with our needs. On a whim, I reached out to Restful Pets, apprehensive that this would work out. Things started looking up though and when I got the scheduling process completed, and we finally had an appointment.
The dreaded day arrived, chilly, but yielded the possibility of being a serene day. We had until the evening. We went through the process of preparing and doing sort of a living wake. Gina, the vet, had called an hour or so prior, communicating that the map had her arriving about 15 min after the scheduled time, which was fine. She arrived, heeding all advisories that I had included in the notes prior to her arrival, and survived the entry process (I have a second dog who can be reactive). She met Carl, and they had a great exchange.
Upon review after Dr.Gina had departed after assisting w Carl's release, Carl's pet sitter and I reviewed Dr. Gina. We both found Dr. Gina likeable, VERY knowledgeable, very kind, very compassionate. She read the room, and almost made it fun. Plenty of jokes were made to help lighten the atmosphere, and its honestly the first in-home release I can say was actually pleasant, and should be exactly what a pet parent should experience. It was a wonderful experience, and it was fantastic to have Dr. Gina as part of the release team for Carl.
Dr. Gina was so understanding, and so gentle w my Carl. She read him like a book, and all of what occurred, could have been set to a watch, about as she called it. Each stage of the process I felt a little more relief for him, and when he finally let go, I was so happy and relieved for him that his discomfort was no more.
Even though it's a sad and rough process, I will say, 10 out of 10 would recommend and would do it again. I wouldn't have it any other way, and I'm so glad it was Dr. Gina who helped my Carl in his release. Thank you!!!!
