WHAT IS THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS UNDER CALIFORNIA LEMON LAW?
Under California lemon law, the statute of limitations is generally six years from the date the vehicle was purchased or leased regardless of whether the current owner purchased the vehicle new or used (including certified pre-owned). In other words, even if you bought the vehicle used, the timeline still runs from when it was first sold or leased as new to the original owner. As a result, older vehicles may not qualify. This means, for example, that a vehicle first sold in 2019 would generally fall outside that six-year window by now.
