7 Do’s and Don’t’s of Watering Your Lawn
1. Don’t overwater. When you set out to water your lawn, don’t aim for creating shallow pools across your yard. The water will wipe away seeds and the topsoil that holds many nutrients and will wash them away into other parts of the yard where they have no value or will go straight out into the street.
2. Don’t water every day. This builds off the previous two items. Your lawn likely doesn’t need to be watered every day, if you water it appropriately.
3. Do water in the morning. The air is still cool and you minimize the odds of losing water to evaporation.
4. Don’t water in the day. The sun shines too intensely and you will waste water as it will evaporate.
5. Don’t water in the evening. Although it’s cool like the morning, watering in the evening can invite fungi to thrive as they love cool, dark, and damp places.
