If necessity is the mother of invention, we stand to witness some sweeping applications in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as we seek new ways of doing common protocols in a post-pandemic world. Despite the evil depiction of AI in Terminator movies, there’s a great deal of good that can come of cognitive computing amidst the restrictions of COVID-19, where minimizing human contact is key to reducing health risks. AI is a powerful technology tool that allows for multiple tasks to take place quickly altogether. Common examples of AI include self-checkouts & autonomous vehicles, where machines replace staff in order to cut costs. Now, newer applications offer some exciting possibilities. The post-pandemic workplace will consist of more controlled environments to track peoples health & wellbeing, ensuring that masks are being worn consistently & that social distancing is being maintained. AI is also being applied to virtual court solutions here & abroad, helping to reduce public contagion by eliminating in-person court proceedings while still allowing justice to be served. As the COVID-19 situation fluctuates, so will the guidelines that need monitoring. AI systems can quickly & easily be programed to shift with the loosening or tightening of regulations, allowing for flexibility in the system. It’s a strange new world out there for all of us, but with the help of AI, perhaps life can be made to feel less intrusive & safer, as we navigate our new normal.
