One of the major concerns parents have is what their kids are doing online that they don’t know about. Are they being bullied or worse, groomed for sex trafficking? Now, thanks to the brainchild of Jeff Gottfurcht, a former Wall Street senior VP and Derek Jackson, a former military intelligence officer, there’s an app for that! The Arizona based company and app called Cyber Dive, give parents access to their children’s social media and online habits for free. Dive’s parental control portal includes monitoring services for social media sites Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat, Google, YouTube, Discord and VSCO. It processes the data for those sites via entry to the word cloud, vibes meter and alert widgets, and sends it all to subscribers, identifying suspicious activity for ultimate online safety. The word cloud lets parents see the most commonly used words their children and friends are using on social media, while the vibes meter provides a general sentiment of activity within a designated timeframe, and the alerts flag potentially concerning activity. For five dollars a month users can access the location of where posts emanate from, along with a history of searched YouTube videos and a list of friends. Gottfurcht and Jackson hope the app bridges the digital divide between parents and children by stimulating deep and meaningful discussions. Cyber Dive is currently working with both StreetlightUSA, an organization for trafficked adolescent girls and Phoenix Dream Center.
