The diabetic foot is something that anyone with diabetes should be very educated about. A recent study showed that people with diabetes had a slower response time when pressing on the gas and brake pedals while driving their cars (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/dme.13957). This concept is well known, however what makes this interesting is that many in this study did not have diagnosed diabetic nerve disease ( peripheral neuropathy). To simplify the results of the study, if you have diabetes when you hit the brakes while driving you may be traveling further than you anticipated. One should be extra careful if driving while being a diabetic with peripheral neuropathy. While it is always important to drive safely , diabetics should drive extra safely.
