Sometimes this happens. You embark on a health journey, but your significant other doesn’t seem to be supporting it. For the most part, they are not actually sabotaging you, or intentionally trying to block your progress. Your paths – and what that might mean to each of you – are just different. They are not the same. Perhaps he does not want to eat a certain way. Perhaps she does not what to move in the way you wish. And that’s okay.
So, instead:
Find an accountability partner. This may be another person in your home, a friend, a family member, or even reaching out to a coach. Just having someone in your corner, someone that sees you and encourages you, that reaches out, that cheers your wins (no matter how small)…can make the difference between a goal you can reach, and one you don’t.
And, also, look for people that motivate and inspire you. Don’t follow fitness or diet influencers: there are just too many voices on social media. You risk being paralysed through the abundance of information and not even get started. Instead, follow people that are where you want to be, or are truly exceptional. Are you a mountain biker? Follow a Redbull downhill champion. Enjoy yoga? Follow someone who makes it look beautiful and graceful. Are you suffering from a disorder such as binge eating? Follow someone documenting their own struggle, pitfalls, challenges, and triumphs.
This can make all the difference.
