We so often get fixed on “calories” and “macros”, with every second influencer arguing about why you should track macros instead of calories, or why calories are still the gold standard, and while they are both true, there is one small point most seem to miss.
Macros are, of course, macronutrients: these are your proteins, carbs, and fats. And the proportion of these along with properly maintaining your calories (how much energy is in the food) is what determines your weight. Those proportions are different for everyone.
But micros? These are super important. Micronutrients are, of course, the vitamins, minerals, enzymes and so on in your food. Unlike macros you don’t need these in high quantities. But they do need to be good. They need to be of a high quality. And the vitamins and minerals in a supplement will never truly replace the vitamins and minerals in the food they originally come from.
Good quality = fresh. Fresh = local.
So when you shop, think “mood”. Think “I am going to choose the best quality I can, from what is available to me right now.”
