How often do we say “bad health runs in my family” or perhaps we’ve heard someone else say this?
We know, now, that this is not always true.
Epigenetics is the science of how your environment can turn genes on and off. And that means that your DNA does not actually equal your destiny.
Think of it like a piano. The piano is your genes. The instrument is there, yes, but your environment is the pianist.
Or think of it like this: while genes may load the gun, environment pulls the trigger. I prefer the piano analogy.
A family history of diabetes or heart disease is not a death sentence. Instead, it’s a wake up call. Health trends tend to follow families because habits tend to follow families.
But you do not need to accept this or take it lying down. Clean eating and a healthy lifestyle can quite literally change how your genes express themselves. You actually can prevent the diseases that we have been told “run in the family”.
Your food isn’t just fuel: it becomes who you are. Every cell that is replaced can be for your good…or not. You can literally rebuild yourself with better materials.
So what can you practically do, today? Choose just one meal that nurtures your long-term health. Not hinders your ability to be all you can be.
