Sherlock Holmes based his method of deductive reasoning on the following premise:
See what is there, discard what is not true, and you will arrive at the truth.
So many times we see claims peddled by health and fitness influencers that simply don't hold up to the truth, when scrutinised...
...and the best thing you can do when starting on a health journey is to pull apart those claims and ask:
Is this true?
For example:
🥖 Carbs are bad
One of the healthiest diets around is Mediterranean, It is high on carbs. So is it true that all carbs are bad?
Another example:
🍗 Only animal protein is good protein
Tons of vegetarian and vegan athletes, high-end performers that don't supplement additional protein, may disagree.
And another:
🏋🏻 You must lift heavy weights for muscle gain
There are loads of things that build lean muscle without lifting weight, like pilates, calisthenics, and so on.
So when starting a health journey, it is best to look at what you've been given, and ask:
Is this necessarily true?
