The $120,000 Mechanic Job Headline – Part 3
The industry keeps waving pay plans like proof that technician pay is “fixed.” This post breaks down why that’s fantasy math for most real-world shops.
Using the BMW of Louisville plan as an example, the bonus tiers look impressive until you calculate what they actually require: 58, 67, 77, 87, or 96 flagged hours per week, every week, all year. That assumes no slow periods, no parts delays, no training days, no comebacks, no dispatch games, and no warranty bottlenecks.
A shiny pay plan means nothing if the system around it is broken.
This is why the $120,000 headline is incomplete. The ceiling gets advertised. The conditions get ignored.
