Me and some friends began living at the Aberdeen while it was under different management, and we loved it! It was run smoothly, all problems were quickly addressed and the price was reasonable. Recently, the management has turned over, and while the people working are nice enough, we have had many issues regarding revovations in particular. When we re-signed our lease, we were under the impression that we would have these revovations complete by the time the lease started, but instead they happened sporadically throughout the leasing period with short notice, meaning we were paying not only for an unfinished apartment, but also for an apartment that was sometimes under renovations some of which were quite intrusive. Notably, our flooring was redone over winter break which was half way through the leasing period, and some of my roommates were living here during that time. Everything had to be boxed up for the renovations and while we were promised it would still be livable, it was at best extremely inconvenient and at worst unlivable. On top of this, the renovations resulted in a blown fuse in the kitchen that resulted in our fridge's power going out and all our food spoiling. While management did offer compensation for this issue, the overall trend of poorly planned and intrusive renovations that have so far spanned an entire semester has made us disgruntled, especially considering the increased rent prices we are paying to live here.
Furthermore, there were a variety of amenities that were promised to us at the beginning of the leasing term that were extremely delayed, notably the gym which just now opened up as of January, and is unimpressive at best.
In conclusion, the Aberdeen used to be a lovey place to live, but the new management is a huge letdown. They often over promise and underdeliver. Furthermore, I do not personally believe that the apartments are worth the high price that they are asking as the rooms are small, strange shapes and even with the renovations, its clear that they units are not as nice as they appear on the websites. I hope the Aberdeen does better in the future, because it used to be such a great place to live and this has been a disappointment for us and many others.
