Curiosity killed the cat, as the old saying goes. Just a warning to anyone who lives with a curious cat, they really do love to find opportunities to limit their lifespan. The vet owner at Abbeywood was willing to share some stories from her cats. One jumped in a washing machine when dirty clothes were being tossed in to be washed later. Happily, a load wasn't immediately run, but when she was found, the kitten was lethargic and nearly asphyxiated!
Another time, an older cat jumped in an open drawer to nestle in the back for a nap, and then got shut in for the best part of a day until her absence at bedtime was noticed.
Recently, they lifted up the couch to clean underneath it, and in the process a kitten darted under it without being seen, and got trapped when it was lowered back down. He was only found the next morning when meowing piteously and reaching his paw out from underneath.
The lesson is, cats tend to work their way into spaces you'd never expect. If one of your kitties goes missing, try to mentally review any and every small space that has been made accessible, even for a moment. And if you end up rescuing one of your own cats from an uncomfortable situation and are worried about how they're recovering, give us a call!
