If the box they refuse to use is in a corner, consider moving it into a more open location, or vice versa. The type of litter box can also make a difference, as can size. Top entry, front entry, and open top may be acceptable to some felines, but not others. Size can also be an issue, so it is worth experimenting, although it is generally best to err on the larger side. Finally, different type of litter may be received differently, and it is fairly cheap to experiment. In the end, the moral of the story is that sometimes issues with cats not using their box are really issues with the box itself. So don't give up, experiment!
