A&A Senior Transportation is a caregiver’s dream come true. Today, I needed to take my mom up to Walter Reed hospital in Bethesda to get an MRI. For medical reasons, I don’t drive. My dad couldn’t drive us, either, because both my mom and I are actually his co-caregivers — he had a stroke three years ago and is non-ambulatory. I’m an only child with no siblings to turn to. Who cares for the ones giving care?
That’s where a great local business like A&A comes in. The round trip transport from where we live in Clinton to Bethesda and back home again could not have gone more smoothly. It was raining and there was a lot of traffic but for my mom the transport was peaceful and relaxing which is exactly what I wanted for my mom. Not only was she anxious about getting an MRI, but her doctor prescribed her Valium to take immediately before the exam due to her claustrophobia. That prescription was another reason why it was so critical for me to obtain senior transport. My mom had never in her life taken a medicine like Valium and I was very anxious about how it would affect her. I needed a transport experience where she had to do as little effort as possible on both ends of the trip.
I regret not asking our driver’s name. I was shy, the weather was bad, my mom was already being anxious, and I was focused on getting us settled in and seated. The opportunity to ask our driver’s name escaped me which is a shame because he was incredibly friendly and a soothing presence which is just what my mom needed. He patiently answered our questions and he even kindly waited a short while at our home because the fill-in caregiver we hired for the day to watch my dad while we were away was running late.
I also want to lift up the behind-the-scenes customer service folks. They were so patient handling my back and forth emails where I asked a million questions because I wanted to ensure that we had a successful transport and more importantly that it would be comfortable for my mom. I felt so bad for exchanging so many emails with customer service that I apologized repeatedly. I also called A&A the day before our transport to confirm our booking and once again they could not have been kinder. Their patience and professionalism are a caregiver’s dream.
We have already booked our next transport with A&A for an appointment in about two weeks from now and this time it will be for my dad.
