Dr James T is both a listener and a straight shooter. He is casual enough to make you feel comfortable introducing himself as James, a warm moment when you have an unfavourable diagnosis. For my own operation I was given a 50/50 scenario of a kidney removal (kidney tumour found “luckily” but unexpectedly after a back MRI 1ml away from the renal artery). If you believe in a miracle from time to time and precision expertise I’ll save you the extensive research I conducted and highly recommend Dr JT. I am so happy to be referred to and be looked after by Dr James Thompson my urologist. From day one I felt totally at ease after being diagnosed with prostate cancer under his care. His expertise and his compassion and dedication are second to none. Dr James Thompson and his staff especially his P.A. Jo are all awesome and make me feel very well cared for.. I was very fortunate to be referred to Dr James Thompson as my Urologist when I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. Dr Thompson was extremely important in helping me understand the situation and the options that were available. He went through all the possible scenarios and what to expect. He never rushed me and always made me feel comfortable and cared for. I always felt that he was there for me and ensured that the right decision was made. Dr Thompson performed a radical prostatectomy. He is extremely skilled and his attention to detail meant that I had an excellent and swift recovery from the operation. The follow up appointments have again shown me that he really cares about his patients. He always has time to explain the recovery process and to ensure that his patients are well informed. To date, my outcomes have been excellent and I feel very confident and relaxed about the future. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had Dr. Thompson examine my kidney stone at St. George Hospital. Dr. Thompson performed a day surgery to remove the stone from my left kidney. During the procedure, he also discovered and removed a small tumour from my right kidney. I am deeply grateful for Dr. Thompson’s thoroughness and expertise in identifying and removing the tumor, which I was completely unaware of. Given that cancer cells were found in the tumour, it could have posed a significant risk in the future. I cannot thank him enough for his exceptional care and dedication.

I had seen Dr. Thompson for consultation in regards to elective surgery in a delicate area. I was anxious during the appointment and unsure of what direction to take. Dr. Thompson went above and beyond, taking the time to talk to me not just about the procedure, but also the psychology behind the issue - a subject not touched on by other specialists I had consulted with. When faced with a prostate cancer diagnosis, I sought several urologist's opinions including, on the recommendation of a friend, from Dr Thompson. After an initial consultation I had no hesitation in choosing James to perform my procedure. My wife suffered from bladder cancer, and after the failure of cystoscopy, an operation was imminently carried out, then our family was in deep frustration about where to turn to a good urologist MD. My urology journey from cancer detection to biopsy through to pre-radiation procedures were performed by Dr Thompson. After two procedures under general anesthetic I was able to return home without any pain killers, not even paracetamol. Dr Thompson's skill is only equaled by his empathy and patient care. How fortunate was I to be referred to Dr Thompson and managed by his wonderful support staff, Jo. I cannot recommend Dr Thompson more highly as his modern approach and expert diagnosis and treatment is unparalleled. I was referred to and recommended to Dr. James Thompson by my specialist when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Bladder Cancer needing major surgery. From the moment my wife and I were greeted by Dr. Thompson and ushered by him into his room, we felt cared for. Dr. Thompson is an outstanding doctor and surgeon of exceptional skills and knowledge in his chosen field. He was attentive, focused, compassionate, patient and generous with his time in listening to us and in answering all our questions, fears and concerns. Dr. Thompson explained everything from the beginning including pictures - from the diagnosis itself, what it means, why the surgery was needed, if there were any options within the surgery itself taking my diagnosis into account, what was involved in each option and (like any surgery) the risks that are involved as well as the pre and post-operative care, outcomes and recovery. His exceptional knowledge and passion and his compassion to do and want the best outcome for me, was genuine and evident for the both of us to see. His confidence, positivity and the level calmness in his voice, gave me and my wife the strength and hope that we both needed at such a difficult and uncertain time. As we left his room, Dr. Thompson turned to me and said, "Don't worry, we'll look after you". And we just knew that we were in the best of hands. My surgery by Dr. Thompson and his team was a success, my post-operative care wonderful and my recovery after such major surgery is excellent. A testament to Dr. Thompson's skills.
