The holidays are almost here... Chances are, you probably have A LOT on your mind! Have you thought about your septic system?
Regular septic system maintenance should be a high priority this season for the protection of your family and home. With many friends and family gathered, it is important to make sure your system is working at peak performance!
Here are 3 helpful ways you can avoid emergencies this winter season.
1) Schedule Regular Maintenance: Depending on how many people live in your home, you should be getting your system pumped every 3-5 years. If you are not keeping up on maintenance, problems may arise at the worst time possible... Increased water usage such as appliances & toilets can cause your system to overload. Remember that heavy amounts of rain water can also cause problems if your leach lines are weak!
2) Watch What You Put Down the Drain: Babywipes, Fats & Grease, Coffee Grinds, and Drain-O are just a few of the items that should NEVER go down your drain! These do more harm than good... Babywipes may say flushable, however, they are not biodegradable and therefore they wont breakdown in the septic tank. Over time, wipes can clog pipes and create back-ups and problems. Fats & grease will also clog lines and overtime, they will build up so much that your pipes can then become solidified which can require a pricey repair.
3) Know Where Your Septic Tank Is: It is so important to know where your system is, especially if you are having an emergency.
