Found within the historic Masonic Hotel, K Kitchen and Bar offers a dining experience that attempts to blend its Art Deco heritage with a modern take on classic dishes.
Upon entering, the ambiance was undeniably cozy, with plush surroundings that felt inviting.
I started with the tuna tartare, which was fresh and well-seasoned, but I wanted some citrus. While it was enjoyable, it lacked the depth of flavor that I had anticipated. The dynamite prawns were a bit of a saving grace, crispy and flavorful but again, they felt more like a standard offering than a standout dish. I found myself wishing for more complexity and creativity in the flavors.
The dessert trio was visually appealing, but the taste didn’t quite match the presentation. Each sweet treat was pleasant, but none left a lasting impression. It felt like a missed opportunity to elevate the meal to something truly memorable.
K Kitchen and Bar certainly has potential. While the Art Deco surroundings are stunning and charming, I was left feeling satisfied.
If you find yourself in Napier, the Masonic is definitely worth a visit. I did not have the mains, but the general clientele looked very satisfied.
