Absolutely terrible experience at Bellinger Packing in St. Johns. I dropped off a nice buck expecting the normal cut sheet I filled out: backstraps whole, some steaks from the hindquarters, roasts, and the rest ground. When I picked it up, I got my backstraps… and 100% ground venison. Nothing else. No tenderloin, no hindquarter steaks, no roasts — literally everything except the backstraps was ground up.When I went back in and asked where my steaks were, they casually said “Oh sorry, we have a new butcher and he ground everything.” That was it. No apology call ahead of time, no heads-up when I picked it up, nothing. They offered me $50 off as if that makes up for turning the best cuts of my deer into burger and accidentally giving it to the person before me. For reference, I easily lost 30-40lbs of steaks and roasts that I was counting on.I’ve been processing deer for 15+ years and have never had a processor just decide to ignore the cut sheet completely and then act like it’s no big deal. $50 doesn’t come close to making it right. Do yourself a favor and take your deer literally anywhere else in the Lansing area. I definitely won’t be back and I’ll be telling every hunter I know to avoid Bellinger Packing.
