I debated leaving a review, but ongoing physical discomfort compelled me to share my experience.
I have TMJ, frequent jaw pain, and headaches. My previous dentist (now retired) had been administering Botox to my jaw yearly, which provided months of relief. In my search for a new provider, I found Dr. Sami.
The office itself left mixed impressions—front desk staff were professional, kind, and excellent across the board. However, the back of the office appeared rundown and poorly maintained (peeling wallpaper, general disrepair), which was unsettling.
Dr. Sami conducted a thorough exam and recommended a high dose of Botox—approximately 50 units—injected across my head, temples, jaw, traps, and shoulders. I asked about potential side effects *after* the injections and was told there were *none*.
A week later, the right side of my mouth began drooping. Fearing a stroke or Bell’s palsy, I contacted the office and Dr. Sami called me promptly. She said this was a *common and normal* reaction, caused by too much Botox, and that it would resolve in 6–12 weeks. She examined me again and advised face yoga while I wait it out.
When I asked why I wasn't warned of this possibility, she said "facial asymmetry" was mentioned in the lengthy digital consent form and became defensive. There was no verbal warning, no empathy, and no real acknowledgment of how distressing this has been. I was offered a discount on future Botox as compensation—which felt inappropriate given my current pain and fear of long-term effects.
Three weeks post-injection, my jaw is once again painful and tight, it clicks, and the facial drooping persists. I am out $700 (please know it is not about the money, however I am much worse off than I was prior to any of this), in pain again, and have one side of my mouth drooping down. This is by far one of the worst "elective" treatments for TMJ I have experienced. If it was not for the incredible staff that works there, this would have been a one star review.
