Fantastic experience, would 100% recommend this hidden gem ✈️. Tom our instructor was very enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgable. The sim set up is top class! They've done an excellent job in setting up the hangar and cockpit, sound and visuals were spot on. We had a great chat about all things aviation, including history of the aircraft (being from aerospace backgrounds it was great to know the history). We paid for 2 extra spectators which was well worth it!! Even though the sim is fixed, the visuals and sound system made the experience feel like motion was happening and the real thing. My dad did a takeoff, landing and flight under the Sydney Harbour bridge. This was a 60th gift for my dad and a nice touch he received a certificate when he finished.
It was also our first time visiting Barton Aerodrome - a rugged site with historical buildings. They have a lovely café very friendly staff "The Club House" - they were very accomodating for my mum and daughter, with a view of the airfield and small play area. Light aircraft, helicopters, emergency helicopters too I think I spotted across the airfield in another hangar. I'd love to visit again and we shall certainly be back.
Deck 747 also has a shop - an Aladdin's den of aviation goods, from turbine pieces to cabin crew tags - an excellent place to aquire some memorabilia.
Staff were easy to contact, they also use whatsapp which us very handy - you can ask any questions easily beforehand. The session consisted of a brief, tour/familiarity with cockpit and flight, so if you want to spend more of this as flight time (and less tour), just give the instructor your preferance on arrival - they are very friendly and accomodating. They also discuss the session on their "general information" page of their website. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect though and could have stayed much longer chatting all things aviation I'm sure!!
They have a schedule to keep to (as with all things aviation) so arrive in plenty of time. There is plenty to look at at the Airfield if you have a bit of time to burn. Make sure to head round to the right as you enter the airfield and look for the big blue hangar (there is a sim at the entrance but this is a different place - see their website for directions).
Overall, a huge thanks to everyone who hosted us today, see you again soon.
