My spouse and I were in heavy stop and go traffic on the second day of our drive to Florida. Our 2004 Roadtrek camper van barely avoided rear ending the car in front and getting rear ended by the following car. It took all my strength on the brake pedal to stop - maybe for 10-15 seconds. For the next day or so the brakes were awful - banging and forcing the steering to shimmy badly, so I drove more slowly - always leaving a long empty space ahead.
On safe arrival at Everglades National Park 2 days later I researched “brake repair” and called Bettencourt. James answered the phone, and we met the next day for a brake inspection. He also drove around and tested stopping hard from 45mph. It stopped on a dime. He patiently explained that my panic stop a few days ago had burnt and scarred the rotors but had cooled and become functional again. He recommended replacing the rotors, but said our van was safe to drive…and we did!
The cost for the inspection and advice? ZERO, no charge, free! James was so professional, knowledgeable and easy to talk with and said to come back if we waned replacements.
