I requested a visit to my residence to resolve a mysterious driveway gate issue. I was told over the phone that Dallas Automatic Gate must immediately have all my credit card info BEFORE they will send out a service technician. Risky and not a common business practice! On top of that; I was told the cost would be $176 per hour plus tax. Seems exorbitant for a service call in Dallas area. The Dallas Automatic Gate technician arrived on time and was friendly; HOWEVER, I experienced several concerns. First, the tech was unable to accurately identify the cause of any issue with my gate. He did check out the batteries, condition of the electronic boards, transmitter, codes, etc. He had to phone his supervisor, Micky, to coordinate and determine proper steps for revising the access codes. In the end; he did not change my access codes or reprogram any of the gate transmitters.The technician also spoke by telephone to someone at the gate manufacturer but was not able to pinpoint the cause of the mysterious, sporadic, gate operation. Then, the technician told me he does not carry spare parts for my gate arm, connections, or system. He cannot grease my gate arm or perform any kind of maintenance as that is NOT in his bailiwick. I was told I would need to schedule and pay for a separate maintenance service visit. Finally, I was charged over $200 (including tax) for the one hour service call. So I ended up paying for nothing changed, fixed, or definitively analyzed. I paid for the technicians on-the-job training. I was told that Dallas Automatic Gate Company was purchased from the original owner. I had my automatic gate installed in 2005. Although everything has increased in hourly service costs; it is very difficult to comprehend how in my case I received over $200 worth of "service". I will shop around and get free estimates next time I need help with my automatic gate and/or remotes. Definitely will cancel my credit card on file with Dallas Automatic Gate Company. Hope they amend their practices and only send properly qualified and experienced, knowledgeable technicians who can handle a service call with a "One call does all" philosophy at a reasonable rate.
