I’ve driven past Azul Fuego more times than I can count, always telling myself, one of these days I need to try that place. Well, today was finally the day—and it did not disappoint!
We arrived in the quiet hours between lunch and dinner, which turned out to be perfect. The main dining room still held the remnants of a bustling lunch crowd, but we were seated right away and opted for the spacious patio. Getting there took us through another cozy dining area, and outside we found a large shaded patio complete with a stage for live music, a play area for kids (a thoughtful touch), and an outdoor bar that likely comes alive on weekends. With only a couple of other tables filled, it felt relaxed and inviting.
At first, service was a little slow to start, but once our waiter arrived, things quickly picked up. While waiting, we had plenty of time to browse the menu, and once we ordered, appetizers and cocktails came out promptly. The guacamole, queso, and chips were spot on, and the cocktails were a refreshing start.
For entrées, we ordered a variety to share: a taco salad, tuna ceviche, and fish tacos. Each dish was beautifully plated, portions were generous, and every bite tasted fresh, flavorful, and clearly housemade. The ceviche was bright and refreshing, the taco salad a hearty favorite, and the fish tacos truly stood out. Our table was full of oohs and aahs as we passed plates around.
Unfortunately, we didn’t save room for dessert, but that just gives me an excuse to return. By the end of our meal, our waiter had more than redeemed himself—friendly, attentive, and quick to refill and check in.
From its striking blue exterior with the sunny yellow door to the lively yet relaxed atmosphere and fresh, authentic flavors, Azul Fuego is a gem in Louisville. Safe to say, I’ll be back soon!
