Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
To this day, there are still patients who have anxieties when visiting the dentist. This fear of the dentist is common and sometimes, this becomes a reason why a dental problem becomes worse. If the patient does not receive urgent dental care, they might lose the tooth. For this reason that dental offices offer sedation dentistry.
Some patients may still hesitate to receive sedation due to safety reasons. To understand better, there are different kinds of sedation.
Laughing gas - this type of sedation is safe for any patient, especially kids. The dentist will place a mask over the patient’s face and let the patient inhale the nitrous oxide. Almost immediately the patient will feel relaxed while awake and will cooperate throughout the procedure.
Oral sedation - with this method, the dentist will give the patient a pill that the patient will intake. A few minutes after taking the pill, the patient starts to feel calm and will be still during the treatment. The medication is also generally safe for all patients.
IV sedation - intravenous sedation will be given through a needle and the process is also safe. It’s still considered as conscious sedation but the benefit of this is that the dentist can easily control the dosage of the sedative on the patient whenever needed.
To make sure that you don’t have allergic reactions to sedation, talk to your Aurora dentist beforehand.
