Lately, a lot of life at home has been centered around learning.
My daughter is not quite five, and with our first son arriving this March, I’ve been intentional about building her independence now, before the newborn season begins. Not because I want her to grow up fast, but because I want her to feel secure and capable when attention is naturally divided. The goal is simple: when her little brother is here, she has something that belongs to her, something she can do with confidence, and a way to stay engaged without feeling bored or pushed aside.
We’ve been doing short daily phonics lessons through a reading program, and rotating in math. We tried an AI math tool, and some of it was honestly above her age, which got frustrating. Then a neighbor in Excelsior suggested something beautifully simple: add an abacus so she can see the numbers. That one change helped everything click.
It’s a reminder that home is more than a place you sleep. It’s where routines become security, where kids build confidence, and where community shapes family life through small shared wisdom.
If you’re planning your next chapter and want a home and neighborhood that genuinely supports the way your family lives day to day, I’m happy to be a resource. Reach out anytime.
