Saturday took California Kids Fun to Mariners Island Park in San Mateo, out at the edge of the lagoon, for a fourth birthday party.
Outdoor shows have their own rhythm. The blankets go down, the plates come out, and for the first minute or two half the audience is still deciding whether lunch is more interesting. Then the puppets show up and that settles itself. By the middle of the Puppet & Magic Show there were kids on blankets, kids on camp chairs, and a few parents who had quietly put their forks down to watch.
Thank you to the family for having us, and to everyone who shuffled along to make room. A park, a lagoon and a crowd of kids is a good way to spend a Saturday lunchtime.
