The show in San Mateo had finished, but this is usually when the best part starts.
One of the puppets goes round to say hello properly, one child at a time. Some kids grab him straight away. Some go very quiet, hold their hands together, and decide from a safe distance, which is completely fine and often turns into the bravest hello of the afternoon about a minute later.
That is the bit we never rush. A puppet who takes the time to meet a shy child on her own terms is worth more than any trick in the Puppet and Magic Show.
