Every magic show in San Mateo has a moment where one of the kids stops watching and starts running the thing. This one arrived when a young volunteer was handed the magic drawing board.
She took the pen with enormous seriousness, thought about it, and drew a face with two eyes and a very determined mouth. What the magic board then did with her drawing is not something we are going to spoil here. The look she gave it afterwards was the best part of the afternoon.
That is what the Puppet and Magic Show is really built around. Not the tricks so much as the twenty seconds where a kid is the one holding the pen and every other child is leaning in to see what happens next.
