PAVEMENT SECTIONS
A pavement section is a layered system designed to distribute concentrated traffic loads
to the subgrade. Performance of the pavement structure is directly related to the physical
properties of the subgrade soils and traffic loadings. The standard care of practice in
pavement design describes the flexible pavement section as a “20-year” design pavement:
however, most flexible pavements will not remain in satisfactory condition without routine
maintenance and rehabilitation procedures performed throughout the life of the pavement.
Pavement designs for the private pavements were developed in general accordance with
the design guidelines and procedures of the American Association of State Highway and
Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
